Description
Chambers Bay Home of the 2015 U.S. Open. From many spots on the course, the waters of Puget Sound are visible along with islands and sections of the Long Branch, Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas.
Chambers Bay is a public links owned and operated by Pierce County Parks and Recreation. Located just outside of Tacoma, Chambers Bay is in the city of University Place. The links -- meeting all the specification of a links versus a golf course -- Chambers Bay sits on a bluff above Puget Sound. The land upon which this course sits has a rich history with the Steilacoom Indian Tribe, early European settlers and with commercial use as a sand and gravel mine. The course design and land restoration qualified Chambers Bay to be certified by the Audubon International as a Silver Signature Sanctuary in 2007. Chambers Bay was host to the 2010 U.S. Amateur and 2015 U.S. Open.
Green fees include the use of pull-carts. Individuals diagnosed with permanent disability may prearrange to us golf carts although a caddie, to preserve the course, must operate the carts. The dress code allows for the usual shirts for both men and women; shorts, while permitted, are strictly defined as to length and style.
The golf links is part of a much larger recreational complex (Chambers Creek Regional Park) that includes a pedestrian bridge that safely moves users over busy railroad tracks in order to access the beach. There are several miles of walking and biking trails. Throughout the year, Chambers Bay is a very popular destination for golfers, dog walkers, and other recreational users.
