69 Steps is a portion of the circular stairs that twist and turn on the climb to access the lens room of North Head Lighthouse. Adjacent to Cape Disappointment State Park on the southwestern corner of Washington State, its light burns day and night as a guide to ships and pleasure boats entering the Columbia River. Constructed of dressed stone and timber and lined with brick, there is significant evidence of deterioration on the exterior thus a two million dollar repair is scheduled for 2015. As a side note, North Head Lighthouse is the windiest lighthouse on the Washington coast and 2nd windiest in the nation after Point Reyes Lighthouse in northern California.
