Description
The Seattle Great Wheel is one of the largest in the country. At 175', it is over the waters of Elliott Bay for half of each revolution. The back half of the ride is over Pier 57 and Miner's Landing. The outside of the wheel is fitted with hundreds of LED lights for which the colors are changed for special occasions. While generally white, they were red for Valentine's Day and wore Seahawk's blue and green during the playoff leading up to the super bowl. Each car can handle six people and after stopping to load all cars, the ride makes three complete revolutions. Visible from Seattle Great Wheel are the ferries that travel between downtown Seattle and Puget Sound islands and the Kitsap Peninsula, Mt. Rainier to the east, and the Olympic Mountains to the west.
