This spectacular sunrise is partially attributed to smoke in the atmosphere coming from wild fires in eastern washington. What is visible -- the silhouettes of West Seattle hills, a hint of the Cascade Mountains, and foreground trees. In addition to filtering through and reflecting off the clouds, the sun reflected off the waters of Puget Sound. Some refer to this type of sun-rays image as Jesus rays; others describe it as a sun burst.
