Description
Mt. Rainier National Park boasts an inn that is on the National Register of Historic Places and was built in the grand style of last century. During the two-year period when Paradise Inn was closed for renovation, the park service commissioned the work of replacing the 84 lamp shades throughout the inn. The shades were originally hand-painted by the wives of park employees when the inn opened in 1917. Artist Dale Thompson hand-painted replicates of the original designs. Having retired from the park service, he had been a former Chief Park Naturalist at Mt. Rainier and other national parks. This image was taken from the balcony.
