Mt. Rainier wearing its summer white. Located in Mt. Rainier National Park in the Cascade Mountain Range in Washington State. this 14,409' peak is very popular with hikers, climbers, campers, and sightseers from all over the world. As is true of many popular mountains, Rainier annually claims victims to climbing incidents. Mt. Rainier National Park is within a quick and easy drive of significant populations -- Seattle and Portland., Visitor counts have been between 1.5 and 2 million people most years.
This early morning image was shot from Paradise Inn Lodge at the 5,420' level. In addition to the lodge, Paradise has a modern visitor's center and picnic areas. It also is one of the primary trail heads for day hikes and guided, technical climbs. All climbers must register at the trail head.
