Description
One of many ferries that provide vehicle and passenger service on the inland waters of Puget Sound in Washington State. The Ferry Cathlamet is on the triangle route that serves West Seattle (Fauntleroy), Vashon Island, and the Kitsap Peninsula (Sourthworth). Operating nearly 24/7, the boats can be observed throughout the day and night as they shuttle back and forth between the three docks. This image, shot at dawn one spring morning, beautifully reflects the pink of the rising sun both in the waters of Puget Sound and in the distant sky. Standing in silhouette behind downtown Seattle is a section of the Cascade Mountains that, while running north and south, divide Washington State into two distinctive climate zones.
